ESA Renewables (ESA), a leading turnkey solar solutions provider, has executed an LOI for a 24MW project located in Paradise Park, Jamaica to provide design and construction services for the project.

Working with Caribbean Energies Group (CEG) and an U.S. Solar Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) provider, ESA has agreed to design, construct, commission, monitor and provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services for a 24MW DC project at the proposed premises in Jamaica. ESA will also assist in securing all permits and other legal requirements for the system as well as conduct all required assessments and related studies for the system as needed.

“We are pleased to be an integral part of the design and construction of this new project in Jamaica,” Jeffery Burkett, President of ESA Renewables stated. We are excited to be building relationships and increasing our own work portfolio and experience into another region.

Caribbean Energies Group LLC will be providing the financing, the array site and the materials to complete the 24MW solar power park (SPP).

The solar park is slated to be constructed on approximately 100 acres on the West end of the island in Paradise Park. This system will produce over 33 million kWhs annually which is equivalent to saving over 17 million kg of CO2 annually. The construction on this project is slated to begin in 2012.

Our fundamental concern was in selecting an EPC contractor that understood the unique challenges of our project. As part of our program management office (PMO) governance selection process, ESA Renewables understands our project charter and scope of work needed in making our project become a viable IPP concern in reaping the benefits of the Caribbean Sun, stated RJ McIntosh, Group Managing Director of the Caribbean Energies Group.

As a bankable Engineer, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and O&M company, ESA sets themselves apart from other EPC and O&M providers in many ways. One particular example is ESA’s newly instated Power Production Guarantee Program. This new program guarantees specific monthly energy production for solar energy generating systems under an ESA operation and maintenance (O&M) agreement. ESA will install its proprietary Monitoring System and follow a custom-designed O&M schedule for the solar farm. Should the photovoltaic system fail to meet ESA’s annual guaranteed power production levels, ESA will compensate the solar farm owners the difference between guaranteed and actual energy generated.

A study carried out by Vuelos Baratos, the most visited independent flight comparison site in Spain in 2007, revealed that the overwhelming majority of Spanish Internet users prefer to spend their Easter holidays in their own country. The analysis of thousands of flight queries conducted on the Vuelos Baratos portal shows that of the top 20 most popular destinations for this Easter, 15 are in Spain. Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Palma, Malaga and Valencia are the most popular Spanish destinations. In fact, Barcelona and Madrid on their own made up almost 20 percent of all the searches conducted by Spanish visitors to the site looking to make reservations for the Easter holidays.

Outside of Spain, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Lisbon and Brussels proved to be the most popular European destinations for Spanish Internet users. For the slightly more adventurous, wishing to travel outside of Spain and Europe, Morocco proved to be the single most popular destination. Combined flight searches to Marrakech, Casablanca and Tangiers made up almost a quarter (24 percent) of all the searches carried out to locations beyond Europe and Spain. The most popular long-haul flight searches for Easter were for New York and Cuba.

The most popular dates among Spanish internet users for travelling this Easter are between the 20th and 23rd of March. Slightly more than 20 percent of the people who carried out flight searches on the Vuelos Baratos portal chose to leave and return on these dates. Only 7 percent of those looking for flights on Vuelos Baratos appear to be fortunate enough to have the full nine days holiday that the majority of users can only dream about and searched for flights between the 15th and 23rd of March. Naturally, it is this last group that look to travel the farthest — 53 percent of them searched for routes outside of Spain and more than 20 percent searched for destinations outside of Europe. Among the other group, who have only four days holiday, more than 60 percent decided to take full advantage of their holidays by keeping travel time to a minimum and chose to fly to Spanish destinations. Only 4 percent of them searched for flights outside of Europe.

Depending on their point of departure, the Spanish demonstrate very different travel preferences when it comes to choosing a location to spend their Easter holidays. People from Madrid seem to want to welcome Spring by escaping their land-locked city and making for coastal areas; Barcelona, Palma, Malaga, the Canary Islands and Ibiza are the most searched destinations among queries originating from Madrid. On the other hand people from Barcelona, who can enjoy the benefits of living by the sea all year round, demonstrate a tendency to choose locations away from the coast — Madrid, Seville, Granada and Amsterdam are among their destinations of choice. People from Seville also appear to want to take advantage of the benefits of the sea at Easter and focus their searches on Barcelona, Valencia, Palma, Las Palmas and Corunna. People from Valencia, whose annual “Fallas” (Firework) festival will attract thousands of extra visitors as it falls at Easter this year for the first time since the 1800s, are heading for Amsterdam, Paris and London. The Basques, Galicians and people from Asturias appear keen to sample the delights of Spain and the majority of their travel searches were for Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona.

To honor the career of President Richard E. Wylie and celebrate the impressive list of improvements and achievements of Endicott College under his 25-year tenure, the College will host a Gala Celebration on May 5.

When President Wylie arrived in spring of 1987, Endicott College was a two-year womens college with an enrollment of 583 students and approximately 200 employees. The campus consisted of 28 buildings on 140 acres, and the operating budget was $ 7.7 million with an endowment of $ 3.9 million dollars. Twenty-five years later, this co-educational college will begin offering its first doctoral program in the fall. Almost 5,000 students study on the Beverly campus and around the world in a variety of majors that did not exist 25 years ago. There are 51 buildings on the 235-acre oceanfront campus, and the operating budget is $ 85,828 million with an endowment of $ 38.7 million. The college employs over 600 people.

This May Dr. Wylie celebrates his 25th anniversary leading Endicott College. He has overseen a remarkable transformation, guiding Endicott from its position as a small, two-year womens college to its status as one of the great success stories in higher education today. The College has become increasingly selective, setting strict academic standards for admission and accepting 50% of its applicant pool. Endicott earned four-year status in 1988 and became coeducational in 1994. In 1996 the Van Loan School of Graduate and Professional Studies was founded and now offers Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), Master of Science in Technology and Nursing (M.S.), Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.)and Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees as well as accelerated Bachelor degrees for adult learners. In December, 2011 the College received approval to offer its first doctoral program, a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership, the first approved doctoral program on the North Shore.

During his tenure, Dr. Wylie has been instrumental in expanding the Colleges academic offerings. While internship and experiential learning remains the core of an Endicott education, over 90% of the degree programs now available at Endicott did not exist in 1987. Most recently the College has created new programs in Biology and Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Political Science, History, Homeland Security, and International Studies. In addition to the Beverly campus, the College operates campuses in Mexico City, Mexico and Madrid, Spain.

The Beverly campus has seen remarkable change, almost doubling its landmass in the past ten years. A new Center for the Arts, residence halls, a state-of-the-art athletic facility with four new fields, and in-classroom implementation of cutting edge technology are but a few of the latest enhancements. Nearly all of the 51 buildings on campus have undergone redesign or renovation, including a major library addition and a new graduate school building.

Dr. Wylie became the fifth president of Endicott after successful careers as a professor at the University of Connecticut, a department chair at Temple University, dean at the University of Colorado, and a vice president and dean at Lesley University. He began his professional career as a teacher in the Gloucester Public Schools. He holds a bachelors degree from Plymouth State University and a masters and doctorate from Boston University.

He served as President of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, which accredits more than 2,500 schools, colleges, and universities in New England. He has consulted with ministries of education and government agencies in Ethiopia, Portugal, Spain, and Brazil. His accomplishments have earned him such recognitions as the Dr. Jack Mombourquette Award for International Education, the Dr. Richard J. Bradley Award for his contributions to school improvement through accreditation in New England, and he was recently named an Aspen Institute Ascend Fellow. Dr. Wylie was one of the founders and first chair of the Board of Trustees for the Urban College of Boston, a higher education institution committed to the advancement and education of the urban community.

Dr. Wylie, affectionately called Doc by the students, is heavily involved in the city of Beverly and on the North Shore as a volunteer and supporter of community initiatives. He is an active member of the North Shore Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Board of Directors of the Beverly School for the Deaf: The Childrens Center for Communication, Main Streets Board of Directors, Beverly Rotary and he is a Director of the Beverly Cooperative Bank. He can be seen with Endicott students around the city as they engage in community service projects, and has long been viewed as one who stimulates and encourages others to become involved.

Dr. Wylie has authored numerous publications for professional journals, as well as monographs, book chapters, and a variety of childrens books and curriculum materials. He is married to Mary Bateman Wylie of North Andover. They have four children: Kathleen Wylie Rocco of Grafton, Christopher of Bridgewater, Brian of Middleton, and Gregory of Concord. They have seven grandchildren.

His motivation for education came from his father, who taught at Boston University for forty-three years. The tradition will continue as his son Brian completes his Ph.D. in Higher Education in the near future.
